Oh My God Another Three Year Wait

Bioware has, for the most part, been fairly alright with consistently putting out games. In some cases, that has worked against them – see Mass Effect: Andromeda which could’ve used another year or two in development – but announcing the fourth installment of the Dragon Age series and that it won’t be out for maybe another three years is ridiculous.

Dragon Age: Inquisition came out in 2014 and had DLC releases until the fall of 2015. It’s be radio silent since, with the exception of a few comic book releases. Now, Bioware isn’t an extremely large company and does have to manage resources, from funding to staff, but planning to release the fourth installment (especially after the game was named game of the year and was widely critically lauded) nearly seven years after feels too long. Nearly Elder Scrolls long.

There’s the argument that a game in development longer results in a better game, but that isn’t necessarily true. Sometimes game developers can produce a great game with fewer resources and a shorter time than others, but that’s dependent on several uncontrollable variables like a team that works well together, who have ideas on the brim, and so on.

Maybe they’re trying to make Dragon Age 4 their biggest game again (please no) with gigantic maps (please, please no). Who knows. All I know is I’m probably going to buy it and be disappointed after they’ve hyped it up past it’s potential but in reality is a decent game.
