The game, for the most part, gives you pieces of myth talked about as if they had happened recently or at least in the recent past. These feats of heroism, of divine intervention are talked about with a firm belief. Now, the Greek pantheon is largely considered myth and fun stories to retell rather than a religion, and with that lens, we go into the game as very critical non-believers.
In the Assassin’s Creed universe, the “First Civilization” (otherwise known as Isu) that came before humankind were technological marvels with seemingly supernatural senses, and they fashioned humans out of a similar species and shaped humans in their own image, mainly to help them as workers. Many of their names are reminiscent of the Roman pantheon, which is extremely similar to Greek mythology, just with a lot of the names changed. Notable Isu in the games include Juno, Minerva and Jupiter.
Where Odyssey departs from its other games is its inclusion of the myths as combatants for the players to fight. The lore behind them is that the Isu left behind artifacts that warped creatures or people into these guardians that would protect what the left after their extinction. So far, I’ve encountered the game’s recreation of the Cyclopes and the maze that was made to trap the Minotaur.
